We are so excited to be sharing with you some of the pictures from our most recent photoshoot at the stunning Abbotsford House. We have finally been able to photograph some of our favourite new styles for our online collection and completely love the pictures Julien took.

We have worked hard during the last couple of years to develop these new styles and find the perfect shaping, fabric and colour ways. We are sure there will be something for everyone among our latest new styles this Autumn ( but of course our designs are made for all year around and forever!).

We have worked with husband and wife partnership Rose and Julien a few times and are always impressed with the work they do. You can look at more of their work and interesting projects on their website – www.roseandjulien.com

Behind scenes
Behind the scenes

Abbotsford is a striking country house in the Scottish Borders, not far from Galashiels, on the banks of the Tweed. It was built as a residence for the novelist and poet Sir Walter Scott between 1817 and 1825, is was still occupied by his descendants until 2004. Now open to the public, it is a delightful place to visit and immerse yourself in its historical gardens and see a wonderful example of the Scottish Baronial style of architecture. The estate has many neo-Medieval features, reflecting Scott’s taste and his desire to create a historical feeling, with all the comforts of modern living. Scott was keen to equip the house with all the latest technologies of the time, such as gas lighting and pneumatic bells. As a visitor, you can now enjoy afternoon tea and lunch at the house, or stay in one of its luxury apartments.

We felt very well looked after by the staff and want to thank the management for a wonderful day, we can’t wait to come back!

Ramor Marcia Tunic
Ramor Marcia Tunic

The Marcia Tunic has been with us a little while now as a jumper and jumper dress, we love both!

This elegant wool garment has been very popular in our shop and we are excited to be adding a collection of stunning collection of 100% Donegal Merino Wool colours to our website. The cowl neck and slightly overlong sleeves make this one ideal for wrapping yourself in and cuddling up nice and warm. Classic rib designs at cuff, hem and cowl neck are simple yet effect design features. Each one if knitted in a single colour which really highlights the colour fleck carried in the Irish spun merino wool.

Clover Skye Jacket

Another new product from this Autumn/Winter collection is The Skye, a luxurious wool jacket, that has been getting a lot of love at our Grassmarket shop, especially in the cooler months here in Edinburgh!

Knitted in wonderfully soft merino wool, the Skye Jacket is a superb addition to the collection bringing some winter warmth in to our range while still carrying the elegance and classic style we are well known for.

The yarn is spun in Donegal Ireland and carries a rich scatter of colour fleck throughout each of the main colours used. If you look closely in each one you will see tiny naps of contrasting and complementary colours which add vibrancy to the finished garment while also harking back to long gone traditional techinques of yarn spinning.

We bring the yarn in from Ireland and blend colourways here in our Workshop in Edinburgh, Scotland giving the Skye Jacket a truly Celtic heart. Easy to wear, this is a loose fitting style with reversible cuffs which allow you to fold back and shorten the sleeves. There are no buttons or fastening so simply wear it open or if you should like, you can pair with one of our Skaramanda brooch pins to fasten the jacket.

Denim Crail Jacket
Denim Crail Jacket

Pockets! You asked, we delivered. The Crail Jacket is a novel take on one of our signature long styles. Using the basket weave effect of the Crail stitch and laying it over a framework similar to our Long Mull jackets, the Crail Jacket combines the character of Irish spun merino wool with our lightweight linen/cotton blend and produces a really practical yet beautiful piece.

Long in the back, split at the sides and with a row of pockets along the front edge which are incorporated in to the design by folding up the front panel. This reduces the pull and stretch you often see on knitted pockets and the folded fabric will keep your fingers warm all day long!

Take a close look and you will see the tweedy effect of colour flecks brogutb in by the soft merino wool, interlaced with a fine linen/cotton blend which adds strength and vibrancy. Its a really lovely stitch, inspired by fishing nets and lobster pots off the coast of Scotland.

Oat Heather Top
Oat Heather Top

Heather Top takes all the heritage of the merino wool with its flecks and texture, and intertwines it with the linen/cotton blend for some structure and pops of bright colour.

Knitted in a diamond lace effect across the body and sleeves, the motif is distinctly proud of its Celtic roots and shows of both our yarns to their best effect. The finished knitted effect is lightweight and airy despite the wool content and we think a great option for Spring or Autumn. You’ll want to wear a short or long sleeve cotton layer underneath, whatever you have on will show through so add a complementary colour which will work to highlight the diamond motif.
