Made in Scotland: Arran Bay Jewellery

Our Made in Scotland blog is back for 2026! We love to showcase the amazing brands that you can find across the best wee country in the world and chat with their founders, designers and craftsmen and women. When it comes to Arran Bay Jewellery, we were drawn to their striking mix of stones, beads, glass which creates a wonderful texture in stunning necklaces, earrings and bracelets. As you know we love a pop of colour and were especially delighted when we learned that founder Lisa has a knitwear design background, having worked for Donna Karan and Missoni! Grab a cuppa and join us for a chat with Lisa as we talk about her love of design, the natural world and glorious colour.

Can you tell us how your business got started?

I was originally working as a fashion knitwear designer and had been for 10 years, I had a degree and masters at art college. My father was an jewellery agent and I decided to make small collection of pearl jewellery in my spare time for him to present to his customers. In the end I had to give up the textile design and invest more time in the jewellery business as I became so busy.

Where do you look for inspiration when you are designing new products? 

Inspiration comes from many sources—fashion, nature, travel, and revisiting vintage designs. With the studio based by the beach on the west coast of Scotland, I spend a great deal of time there; the rugged coastline continually inspires our colour palettes and creative direction.

 

Can you tell us a bit more about how you make your products?

Our pieces are all hand made in our studio using natural gemstones and a mixture of steel and hematite. Colour is important to us and I like the designs to play with the juxtaposition of patterns and materials.

What are your most popular products and which are your own favourites?

Our best sellers are our bubblegum coloured natural agate stone designs (shown above). These are fun and great pieces for the summer and holidays. I also love these designs, some of the natural stones have their own patterns to them which are gorgeous.

If you had to pick one place in Scotland to recommend that people visit, where would it be?

I would have to say visit the isle of Arran. They call it Scotland in miniature. And it’s the view from the beach where our studio is located hence our name.
