Edinburgh’s Christmas has begun! I’ve been visiting the market at the heart of Edinburgh for years now. I’ve been on work Christmas nights out, spent time there with teenagers, had a very memorable magical grown up Christmas Eve &, more recently, visited frequently with young children in tow. There really is something for everyone at every stage of life & I wanted to give you my take on what we enjoy & what we are looking forward to this year!
The Traditional Christmas Market in East Princes Street Gardens is my personal favourite part of Edinburgh’s Christmas. Most adults will spend the vast part of their visit strolling through the boutique stalls, sipping on a mulled wine or hot chocolate while nibbling on a pretzel, burger or waffle. Christmas heaven!
The Carousel is always a big hit with both young kids & the young at heart! The Christmas Market boasts not one but two Carousels, one of which is double tiered. A beautiful traditional ride & the opportunity for a great picture!
A trip through the Christmas Tree Maze is a magical experience for children & a great way to safely burn off some energy as they hunt for Santa’s Elves workshop & a chocolate treat!
Santa’s Grotto is best booked in advance & one for older children as it includes a story with Santa. Little kids may get fidgety but it’s a great one for new babies for their first ever picture with Father Christmas – here’s my daughter meeting him for the first time!
Speaking of my daughter, she is desperate to go on the Big Wheel this year. There’ll be amazing views of the city in an enclosed (& probably warmer) pod so I am happy with that too.
The Reindeer Ride has been a favourite of my nieces, nephews & now my own kids. They love driving the reindeer & shaking the bells on the harness. Watch out for the snow as you go round!
We’ve not tried the Candy Cane Bungees before but are keen to give them a go. Maybe before we stop for some treats though!
